MIT SEED Academy (applications due November 7th)

Now Accepting Applications for Spring 2009 (Deadline = 5PM on Friday, November 7, 2008)

The Saturday Engineering Enrichment and Discovery (SEED) Academy is an academic enrichment and career exploration program for public high school students from Boston and Cambridge, Massachusetts. Our primary mission is to increase the number of traditionally underserved local students in the pipeline to the technical workforce.

In order to be eligible for SEED Academy, the applicant must be a 9th or 10th grade, public school student in either Boston, Cambridge or Lawrence and he or she must be free to participate from 9am to 3pm every Saturday that SEED is in session. Accepted students will demonstrate a strong interest in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) disciplines and will enjoy the process of engineering design. SEED students must be willing to work in teams. Students will have one hour of homework per week for the program, which they are expected to complete. They must maintain a B- average and miss no more than two Saturdays of classes per year. All SEED Academy students are expected to attend two hours of tutoring per week. SEED Academy is provided free of charge to eligible students.
